About this property
This is one of the early homes of Innisfail. It was built on what is now a premier block of land right opposite the Johnstone River. Originally, this was one of the main wharf areas where ships were loaded with produce exported from the town, and wares from the big cities were delivered. The home is solid double clay brick rendered with Johnstone River hardwood bearers and joists, and though it is heading towards 100, it is in excellent condition. A testimony to the values of the era - do it once and do it right. The home is presented in a casual, life-is-for-living way, with a bit of a Boho feel. The butterfly staircase with its Art Deco concrete balustrade leads up to the front door. The casement windows and French doors open to a corner enclosed verandah which soaks in the river views and the breeze off the water. This is the green room, where the morning coffee is enjoyed and the hours drift by like the tide ebbing and flowing just metres away. A 5-minute stroll along the Riverside pathway will bring you to the centre of town, where the cafes and restaurants can be enjoyed. There is almost new air conditioning throughout the home, but the thermal mass of the concrete construction, combined with the high ceilings, French doors, casement windows, and riverside breezes, means that the temperature is well regulated. The home is elevated approximately 1.8 metres, meaning it is well out of the flood risk, but most importantly, allowing for great workshop and storage options. The yard is fully fenced, and the beautiful scent from Frangipani trees wafts inside. Undercover parking beyond the gate will keep the car or boat safe, as well as a double carport. The kitchen and bathroom could use a facelift if you were that way inclined, but I imagine many people who love this home may be too chill to worry about it. Everything works as it should. The main bedroom has built-ins and is generous in size. There is room for a third bedroom with the addition of one wall if you think it is necessary. The tongue and groove floors would come up a treat. This is such a beautiful home with so much history, and it holds a superior location. An inspection will be a joy. Contact Michael Skuse
