Riverhills is not a suburb built around a café strip of its own, and that's part of its appeal — daily life here tends to centre on the home, the river and the surrounding green space rather than a commercial main street. For dining out, cafés and restaurants at nearby Mount Ommaney and Jindalee are only minutes away, giving residents plenty of choice without the noise of living on top of a retail strip.

Shopping

The Westfield Mount Ommaney shopping centre is the big drawcard for the area, offering a full-line supermarket, department stores, specialty retail and a cinema, and it sits just across the river from Riverhills via Mount Ommaney Drive. Smaller everyday shopping needs can also be met at neighbouring Middle Park and Jamboree Heights, which have their own local centres.

Getting around

Riverhills is well served by bus routes running into the Brisbane CBD and connecting to the Centenary Motorway/Western Freeway corridor, which is the main artery for residents driving into town or out toward Ipswich. The suburb's riverside position also means the Brisbane River is a defining feature of the local geography, with parkland tracing much of its bank.

There's no dedicated rail line through Riverhills itself, so most residents rely on car or bus travel, and access to the Centenary Motorway makes commuting to the CBD, Indooroopilly or Ipswich relatively straightforward outside peak congestion.

Parks & recreation

The riverfront is Riverhills' standout recreational asset, with parkland and reserve areas along the Brisbane River offering walking and cycling paths, picnic spots and a genuine sense of space that's harder to find closer to the city. The suburb backs onto bushland corridors that link through to nearby Sumner and Mount Ommaney, appealing to residents who like to walk, run or ride without leaving the local area.

Schools & families

Families are well catered for locally, with Riverhills State School serving the immediate area, and further options at nearby Middle Park and Jamboree Heights. The suburb's median age of 36 and its mix of established houses point to a strong base of families and long-term residents, and the quiet residential streets and nearby parkland add to its appeal for those with young children.

The property market

Riverhills' median house price currently sits at $975,000, following a strong run of growth of 11.4% recently — a sign that buyers are increasingly recognising the value on offer this far west along the river. Median rent is $660 a week, reflecting solid demand from tenants as well as owner-occupiers.

Housing stock is dominated by detached houses, which make up around 75% of current listings, with townhouses accounting for the remaining 25%. That mix, combined with generally larger blocks than you'd find closer to the city, makes Riverhills a suburb where buyers can still find family-sized homes with room to move, at prices below many comparable riverside pockets closer to Brisbane's centre.
