About this property
In 1887, during the boom years of "Marvellous Melbourne," celebrated hotelier William C. Wilson commissioned this grand mansion, naming it Lanark. Electricity was still seven years from reaching the Melbourne streets, this home was lit by candlelight, while the stables at the rear kept the horses that carried the household through the city. The house went on to house some of Melbourne's most prominent figures over the following decades. Around 1939 it took on a new identity as Grosvenor, and operated as a luxury reception venue. The Australian Army acquired the property in 1942 for £25,000 and put it to military use for more than half a century. What stands today is a carefully restored heritage façade, now home to just six luxury apartments. Among them, M6 holds the top-floor corner position and is the only apartment in the building with a private balcony. Its original character has been preserved throughout, soaring arches and a fireplace that has warmed residents across fourteen decades. This is a rare opportunity, the first time M6 has been offered to the market in the 18 years since the building's redevelopment. • Extremely Rare Opportunity, One Of the Oldest Residences In Melbourne 3004 • Grand Arched Windows, Original And Fully Functional • Lush & Secure Tree-Lined Views • Original Working Fireplace • Renovated With Brand New Engineered Herringbone Floors • Two Spacious Bedrooms, Both With Secondary Glazed Windows • Underground Secure Basement Parking • Visitor Parking • Amenities (55 Queens Road): Indoor Heated Pool, Gym & Onsite Building Manager Positioned directly opposite Fawkner Park, with Albert Park Lake, St Kilda Road trams, the Domain precinct and the city all within minutes.
