About this property

If you have been in search of a unique property in a great rural township, your prayers may have been answered with this piece of unique local history. Rarely do churches come up for sale and when they do, they certainly do not last long. Even harder to find is one in good condition, but still provides the opportunity for the owner to add their own touch to this canvas. The magnificent Victorian Early English Gothic styled church with exposed dichromatic brick, was built in 1874. It is characterised by a steeply pitched and parapeted gable roof, together with central steeply pitched gables at either end which reflect the early gable porch and the original chancel. The main gable ends are also identified by the oval windows, decorated with two courses of cream brick voussoirs. These same original bricks are also featured as a capping along the parapet and as quoin work about the windows. Other early features of the design include the corbeled cream brick patterning on the original main gable, metal crosses at the apex of the front gables, and the bluestone windowsills and plinths. On the inside the original timber rafters and timber lined ceiling add character and warmth, to what has been transformed into a unique double story, two bedroom home. Downstairs the open plan living/dining area has neutral light decor and a modern kitchen and would suit large gatherings of friends and family. Upstairs contains two bedrooms with ample living space between, for an office, retreat or a second lounge. The large shower, separate toilet and laundry are pleasing and contemporary. The property has been refurbished from the foundations up, with extensive work to install a damp course. Situated on a hug 1163m2 block, with a Colourbond single garage, water tank and mature trees, just a short stroll from the Main Street of the town of St Arnaud, with a population of around 2600 people. Modern facilities have been subtly introduced to the town, without detracting from the old-world character and charm associated with its history. Like other towns born in the gold rush, St Arnaud is richly endowed with solid civic buildings, hotels and stores lavish with cast iron lacework. Another unique feature of the town is the bushland which completely encircles it, providing habitat for many native animals and plants. It has recently become part of the Silo Art Trail and it is also within close driving distance to local wineries and other tourist attractions such as lakes and rivers.
