Getting around

The Pacific Highway runs close by, making Coffs Harbour's CBD, airport and hospital a straightforward drive south, while Emerald Beach and the smaller communities to the north are equally accessible. There's no train line through Moonee Beach itself, so a car is effectively essential — this is a drive-everywhere suburb, and most homes are set up with that in mind, including the newer land releases aimed at people building to suit.

Families tend to use the primary schooling options around Moonee Beach and Coffs Harbour, with high schoolers generally heading into Coffs Harbour for secondary options. The suburb's mix of established houses and newer land subdivisions has kept attracting young families and older couples alike, helped by the reserve, the beach and the general sense of space that's harder to find closer to the Coffs Harbour centre.

Housing stock in Moonee Beach is dominated by detached houses, which make up 79% of current listings, ranging from older beach shacks to more contemporary coastal builds. Land sales account for a notable 15% of listings, reflecting ongoing subdivision and new-build activity in and around the suburb, while townhouses make up the remaining 6% for those after lower-maintenance living. It's still very much a house-and-land suburb rather than a medium-density one.
