There's no train station within the suburb itself, so most residents rely on buses connecting to Wentworthville, Pendle Hill and Parramatta stations on the Main Western Line, or drive to those centres for rail services into the CBD and beyond.

Families are well served locally, with Greystanes Public School, Beresford Road Public School, Ringrose Public School and Widemere Public School all in the immediate area, alongside Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School for Catholic schooling. Greystanes High School covers secondary education within the suburb itself, and this concentration of schools within a short drive of one another is a big part of why the area appeals so strongly to young families and those planning to stay long-term.

Open space is one of Greystanes' quiet strengths, thanks largely to its proximity to Prospect Reservoir and the surrounding bushland and walking trails. For renters, the median asking rent is $750 per week, positioning Greystanes as a solid but not cheap option relative to some neighbouring suburbs. Buyers priced out of areas closer to Parramatta or the Inner West have increasingly looked to Greystanes for its larger blocks and established housing stock, and with such a small proportion of apartments on the market, competition for houses in particular has remained firm.
