Life in Green Point revolves around the water. Wallis Lake laps much of the suburb's edge, and boating, fishing and simply watching the lake change colour through the day are the main drawcards. For dining, cafes and restaurants, residents lean on nearby Forster, which has a proper town centre with a range of eateries, pubs and waterfront options just minutes away by car.

It's a low-key existence by design. Green Point doesn't have its own commercial strip to speak of, and that's part of the appeal for people who've chosen it deliberately over busier coastal towns further north or south.

For day-to-day shopping, Green Point residents head into Forster or across to Forster Keys, both of which offer supermarkets, specialty stores and the everyday retail that a small residential suburb like Green Point doesn't provide locally. It's a short trip rather than a major outing, and most locals build it into their regular routine.

Schools & families

Green Point is home to Green Point Christian College, a well-known local school, with Yattalunga Valley Christian School also nearby. Despite this, the suburb's demographic profile, with a median age of 54 and a small overall population, points to a community weighted more towards established couples and retirees than young families, many of whom travel in from surrounding areas to attend these schools.

Getting around

Green Point is best navigated by car, with Forster and Forster Keys both close enough for quick trips to shops, schools or the beach. The Pacific Highway corridor connects the broader Forster-Tuncurry area to Newcastle and Sydney to the south and to Port Macquarie and beyond to the north, making Green Point a viable base for those who don't need a daily commute but want reasonable road access when they do travel.

Green Point's housing stock is overwhelmingly detached houses, which make up 83% of current listings, with townhouses accounting for 10% and vacant land the remaining 7%. This mix reflects the suburb's low-density, lakeside character rather than any push towards higher-density living.

The median house price currently sits at $1.34 million, with recent growth of 1.5%, suggesting a market that has largely found its level rather than one moving sharply in either direction. Median rent is $925 a week, a figure that points to a market shaped more by owner-occupiers and lifestyle buyers than by a deep rental pool, and one where waterfront and water-glimpse positions are likely to command a premium over the balance of the suburb.
