The Broadmeadows Central shopping centre is the retail anchor for the suburb and the surrounding area, offering a full-line supermarket, discount department stores, specialty retailers and services all under one roof. Its scale means residents rarely need to leave the area for day-to-day shopping, and it draws shoppers from neighbouring Dallas, Jacana and Coolaroo as well.

Getting around

Transport is one of Broadmeadows' strongest cards. Broadmeadows Station sits on the Craigieburn line, giving residents a direct rail link into the city, and the suburb is also serviced by Broadmeadows Bus Interchange, which connects into surrounding suburbs including Campbellfield and Gowanbrae. Road access is straightforward too, with proximity to the Hume Freeway and Western Ring Road making both the CBD and Melbourne Airport a relatively quick drive.

Schools & families

Broadmeadows caters well to families with a range of learning needs, including Broadmeadows Special Developmental School and its Sorrento Street campus, Hume Valley School and its Tanderrum Way campus, and the Collingwood English Language School's Broadmeadows campus, which supports new-arrival students learning English. Sirius College is also nearby, rounding out a solid spread of local schooling options for families settling in the area.

Broadmeadows remains one of the more accessible entry points into Melbourne's property market. The median house price sits at $650,000, with units and apartments considerably cheaper at a median of $468,000, and median rent across the suburb at $520 per week. House prices have grown 8.3% recently, a solid result that points to increasing buyer interest in the area's affordability relative to the broader northern suburbs.

Current listings are dominated by houses (55%), with townhouses making up 28% and apartments or units 14%, plus a small proportion of vacant land (3%). History

Broadmeadows developed rapidly through the mid-20th century as part of Melbourne's post-war industrial expansion, drawing waves of migrant families who shaped the multicultural character the suburb retains today. That industrial and migrant heritage still underpins its community identity, even as the area continues to evolve with newer housing stock and renewed investment in the town centre.
